Yellow Point Lodge - Mar 02-04, 2012

An annual tradition for us is our weekend getaway to Yellow Point Lodge on Vancouver Island. Before buying our property on the Sunshine Coast we were coming here up to four times a year (once per season) and we couldn’t possibly give this incredible retreat place up completely so we determined the best weekend for us to keep is the one where we celebrate my Dad’s Birthday. This our tenth year celebrating with Pops on his 84th Birthday.

A brief exert from the Yellow Point Lodge website (www.yellowpointlodge.com)...

Yellow Point Lodge has been one of Vancouver Island's favorite rustic retreats for over 70 years. The massive log lodge and variety of cabins are surrounded by 185 acres of private, mostly first growth, protected coastal rainforest with over a mile and a half of waterfront facing the Gulf Islands.

Meals are taken communally in the large dining room and are included in your room rate. Three extra 'tea times' with homemade goodies are featured daily as well. The rate also includes full use of our recreational facilities. These feature our 180 foot saltwater swimming pool, two tennis courts surrounded by forest, our eight speed bicycles, gym facility and practically untippable kayaks.

Ever since we opened in 1939, Yellow Point has been oriented towards the adult person who really needs a bit of a get away. Hence we ask our guests to be over the age of 14. We're not really geared for the younger set, anyway.

As with most things unique, Yellow Point Lodge is not for everyone; casually elegant, not fancy at all.

Please visit their website for more information on this special place...

Now to some pictures.

The owner (Richard Hill on Bass - centre), playing with some friends on the Friday night in the lounge.

Lunch is served...

The Birthday boy enjoying a "Full" lunch...

Some pictures of the area where this incredible lodge is located.

The fireplace is the only thing that survived the fire. Just to give you an idea of this fireplace - in order to stoke the fire or put another log into it you have to pretty much go right into it.

Richard giving us some instructions for the Saturday dinner, something like take a plate and go through each item, no pushing and shoving and most important..."if you don't eat your vegetables you don't get dessert". He actually doesn't need to say this anymore he just counts us in on the count of three and anyone who has been here before yells it out... fun.

Saturday.. that means Roast Beef and ...

Yorkshire Pudding of course.

Jan and Lance the Birthday boy in full swing as the Richard and the band play. Five to six members, playing all the good old tunes - all volunteers - pretty special. By the way the entire floor of the lodge is coil spring loaded, so when you dance you can really get going.

Always a deer close by...

Nice place to have your breakfast...

Natural hot tub, with and outdoor shower with beautiful view of the ocean...ahhh.

There is a perimeter walk around the 185 acre property, from the ocean to old growth.

Giving our respects to Uncle Claude. Uncle Claude is an old growth Douglas Fir that stands majestically in the old growth forest. Named after Richard's uncle.

Our walk around the property continues...

Meditation Lake on the edge of the property.

Hard to see but our accommodation is up there on the cliff, we are White Beach numbers 4 & 5.

In the summer season the barrack accommodations are open and the they are right on the water, adult camping at its best.

Massage anyone? Here is the cabin where we have our annual massages... Ahhh again.

This is a "Tree House" shower. Up the stairs to the right for men to the left for ladies. Way up in the tree with an incredible view. When we used to come here in the summer I always made it a point to have at least one shower here, there is nothing like it.

Beach cabins as well.

And yes right on the water, those logs are the drift wood that has washed up.

Yellow Point Lodge is a pretty special place for us.
