Remembrance Day... and oh yes it was.
We were given special poppy lapel pins to begin this day of remembrance along with a virtual ship stopping 2 minutes of silence as signaled by the ships horn at 11:00. At 11:11 there was a special remembrance service in the main show lounge to truly commemorate this day.
And for us, the Captain’s dinner as mentioned we were not sure what to expect. Well it was beyond beyond. This unforgettable meal and experience was a decadent culinary feast served with what I would call orchestrated precision only to eclipsed by the company at our very private table, presented in a sealed off corner of the Pinnacle restaurant. Drinks were served in a sectioned off area of the Atrium where we met our seven other dining companions and our hosts, Captain Fred Eversen and partner Brooke Nantz. We were then escorted by the Pinnacle Manager Kim to the restaurant where they seated us based on predetermined seating plan, Jan was to right of the Captain while I was seated to the right of our hostess Brooke at the other end of the table. The set menu was circulated, then collected for signatures and then the formal parade of our courses began and paired perfectly with incredible wines. Each course was placed and then announced in detail prior to enjoying. This was a very quiet and formal affair with no one else around and with none of the photographers floating about taking the tourist type pictures. No it was classy all the way. We did not bring our big camera as it just did not seem right, but I did bring my iphone just in case. When the palette cleansing lemon grass sorbet was served inside the ice lemon, I just had to take a picture of it, so here is a small sampling of our table, a few of the served courses, the invitation, the signed menu and the evening’s concluding gift - sorry for the quality of the pictures. And yes of course the experience did conclude with a tabled delivered gift and the lining up around our table of all the people responsible for preparing and serving our meal (more than the number of people at the table), two chefs, two wine servers, the Pinnacle manager, the Pinnacle hostess, along with the, I believe six servers that so expertly presented each course. Applause all around for this night of remembrance - just wonderful.
Tip or Comment of the day. Comes from our pillow card last night.
