Port Kelang, Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) - Feb 14, 2013

Like much of equatorial Malaysia, the site of modern day Kuala Lumpur was once an untouched tropical forest. When miners found tin here, a small settlement began. This extraction of tin brought in a steady influx of population, goods and business. The area grew and is still growing today as the capital of Malaysia. Trade of natural resources, including minerals, is the backbone of Malaysian economic development. Peninsular Malaysia is the world’s largest producer of tin and the second largest producer of rubber. Malaysian states on the island of Borneo are rich with timber, petroleum, rubber and pepper. Once the ship was cleared we headed off to the taxi stand (much more civilized here) to grab a cab to the train station - very similar to our sky train system. Clean, organized and on time we headed into the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. As our time was a bit limited we picked only a few spots to really enjoy, the first was the Telecommunications Tower to get a great over view of this amazing city including the infamous Petronas Twin Towers - the highest twin towers in the world. Then is was off to the Central Market for some retail therapy and a quick lunch. It started to pour rain while we were in the market so we we stayed until we had to return to the train station - this was just fine as there was a lot to see in the market and it had great food in the food court. Happy Valentine’s Day to all - some pictures of our day.
