Busy, busy, busy and then my computer hard drive maxed out. Couple that with putting my hand up on making our dance class video and all of a sudden I am a few days behind. After moving 30,000 pictures to my external hard drive - good thing I bought a second one for this trip as to add to my computer complications my first 1TB external hard drive also filled up, I now have 180 gigs to play with and as I write this, the final version of the dance instruction video is finalizing. So lets get caught up with our incredible two days in Honolulu and one day in Lahaina. One day at a time.
Honolulu and the Waikiki Beach area are the tourist hot spots here on Oahu. You don't have to venture far from this main center to absorb the lush nature scenery of Oahu but Honolulu does boast an impressive skyline with more than 400 high rises, ranking it fourth in the nation. Honolulu can trace its roots back to the 11th century with Polynesian immigrants the first to arrive, but it wasn't until the 19th century when the city was showing promise as a major hub in the region. As a state Hawaii welcomes millions of tourists every year; Honolulu attracts a good percentage of those with its mix of paradise scenery and big city vibe.
Our first day here in pictures takes you from dawn to dusk as I was set to watch the sunrise over Diamond Head and yes it was a spectacular sunrise leading into incredible day as Jeff, Ellie, Jan and I headed out in a rental car to explore the island. Starting at Waikiki beach stopping for a few pics we headed to Diamond Head for our morning work out up to the top - great hike. The reward was our first ever shaved ice, highly recommended, kind of a combination of Slurpee and Freezy. We then stopped at the famous blowhole and Koko Head crater park for some spectacular views. The valley if the Temples was next on the list before heading to the North Shore for some pipeline wave action at Sunset Beach. Exhausted we were back on board by about 6:30 for dinner and then some much needed sleep before heading out for day two.
A few pictures of day one in Honolulu, hope you enjoy...
