Jeju City, Chejudo, South Korea - Oct 12, 2011

Mostly sunny with a temperature of about 21 degrees met us as we sailed into Jeju City on the Island of Cheju in South Korea. Jeju is the capital of of Jeju province in South Korea and the largest city on the island of Chejudo (pop. 600,000). This resort destination with many casinos Jeju welcomes over 4 million visitors a year from mainland Korea, Japan and China, especially honeymooners. As this was a short visit we chose to attend the Nanta performance, most these pictures are from the performance where they basically take regular household items and create music, from spoons, knives, pots, pans etc they put on an excellent show. They came into the audience and pulled two people to participate in what they called the wedding ceremony and surprise I was picked so here I am in the get up, tasting some soup, getting hypnotized getting bonked on the head (not shown) and then finally getting married in this crazy ceremony. If this production ever comes to town it is definitely worth seeing, one of the top ten things to see and do in South Korea.

 Me with my stage wife
Jan with two grandfather statues. Perhaps the reason why honeymooners come here. In front of many buildings, like in the first picture they have these statues called grandfather statues, meaning trust, wisdom, strength etc. but also based in the shape of the grandfathers heads also mean fertility. When women newly married and otherwise wish to have luck in the family way they rub the heads of the grandfathers for this good fortune in trying to have a family.
 A McDonalds delivery scooter.

A very helpful local who just came up to us on his scooter and offered us information on the many things to see and do in Jeju. People here are so friendly and they just love to try to practice their english (sometimes hilarious).

Tomorrow will be our crazy day in the big city of Seoul South Korea.
