Yes we are at home. On the morning of October 10th, (9th at home), we received news that required us to leave the ship and immediately fly home. My brother, who had been battling brain cancer passed away. For those close to us, thank you for the e-mails and the cards, for those a bit further afield and follow our blog this is why there has been a gap in our uploads. As this is a travel blog, I will not get into any of the details but we are okay as we move through this rough time in our lives.
Special recognition to Holland America Line and the Guest Relations Staff on board the MS Amsterdam. Upon hearing the news, the Guest Relations Manager, Christel Mensink acted very quickly and professionally and within hours had us on a plane leaving the ship in Guam, two connections later we were at home. So we thank HAL for taking special care of us.
We will continue... As this was such a long voyage, we only packed a carry on bag (as it made the connections quicker without having to worry about luggage transfer) so we will be rejoining the MS Amsterdam in Hong Kong on October 23rd. Thoughts of my brother will be with me always as he will always be remembered for his big smile and bone crushing hugs. This blog will be continued with our visit in Hong Kong ...
