Hong Kong - October 21 - 24, 2013

With our old camera in tow we fly into the amazing city of Hong Kong. Hong Kong is New York on steroids, this city is huge, bold and spectacular - a city of contrasts, one moment you are amongst the best organized chaos ever the next you can find yourself walking peacefully on a mountainous trail. As far as cities go, I say Hong Kong is complex yet simple. Grab an Octopus Card, load it up and your transportation is done. An Octopus Card is a transportation card that you can use on all forms of public transportation, from buses to trams to the metro to the many ferries darting all over the harbour - well you can even use it for purchases at many convenient stores like 7-11. Complex in that you need a really good map and a good sense of direction, one can easily get themselves turnaround for hours. Hong Kong is really Hong Kong and Kowloon, two major cities separated by a body of water both with plenty to offer. I will be preparing three maybe four uploads (depending of course on internet speed and capacity) for our visit here, not necessarily by day but more by experiences - it was nice to have some extra time here.

Day 1 - Lantau Island

The last time we visited Hong Kong we jumped on the metro and then took the Cable Car to the Po Lin Monastery and the world's largest outdoor Buddha, this time we visited by way of an hour long ferry ride and the island's public bus transportation - a great way to sightsee this area by water. One of our bus stops was a visit to little fishing village built on stilts before we headed up the mountain to the monastery. The first few pictures of our hotel the Grand Harbour View Hotel, they are of our room, the hotel roof top pool area and the male portion of a wedding party staying at the hotel - great hotel. The last few pictures where taken at our dinner in Delaney's pub - complete with a Guinness Beer - you would think you were in Ireland.
