July 10, 2022, Bar Harbour, USA

For us, sleeping on a ship is just something else. Not sure if it is the engines, the slow rocking or that fact that when you sleep on a ship you are multitasking - while you are sleeping you are travelling. The dreaming is that deep REM sleep that puts you into another state that when you awake you are so refreshed. That and back to the multitasking comment, you awake to somewhere new or different. Yes, so nice to be back cruising.

Today, we are in Bar Harbour, a town we have visited back in 2008 while on the inaugural season of the Eurodam, the changing of the colours cruise. Again, a special shout out to the Scott sisters, they indicated that when they were here a few days ago, they rented an electric car to tour around Acadia National Park. Well what a great idea, hmm, how are we to find them, what a great surprise to see them within steps of getting off the tender. Sounds great, we said, within minutes a shuttle came and whisked us off to the office and on our way we went. What a hoot, thank you again, Ann and Cathy. This was like driving a ramped up golf cart plus for three hours around the National Park. The person at the rental said, you need to make four lefts to get into the park and there is a funky little intersection here… everything after that was a bit of a blank… lol, let’s just go… So, yes, there was a funky intersection but you wouldn’t know as you are sitting there saying, this looks kind of strange, is this where we are supposed to turn right to get the National Park Pass? Oh, no, this is the funky intersection she was talking about, lol. All in all not that complicated but you did have to take a breathe and a moment every now and then.

Although everywhere we went was crazy busy with cars everywhere (Sunday, I guess), we got very lucky at our three stops with parking very close to where the sites where that we wanted to see. These were, Sand Beach, with a walk to the Thunder Hole, Jordan Pond and the before mentioned National Park visitor centre to get our Park Pass. We had a beautiful warm, sunny day with a car with no doors and a great sunroof, the sea air blew through the car keeping us comfortable as we maxed out at the 25 mph speed it is set to top out at - this really allowed you to slow down your roll and take in the sites along the way. We clocked out at 11:30 for the 3 hour loop tour and clocked back in at 2:28pm. When in Bar Harbour check in with Jeff at Acadia Gem (AcadiaGem.com).

Time for lunch and our first ever Lobster Roll (Market Price), talk about D- licious, wow ! Fantastic with a beer chaser. Market price ended up at $34.00 US per. - something special and totally worth it. Some retail therapy thereafter and then, of course, the last tender back to the ship, nice. Love sail aways and this one did not disappoint, it is amazing how we navigate through the thousands of lobster markers (buoys) all over this water - yes, there is a pilot on board to help with all this, still amazing, I’m sure we ran over a few, lol.

Some classical music before dinner, a fantastic dinner and then excellent show, featuring the dancers on the Zaandam. Tomorrow is our first Gala night of this cruise, should be another great day. We now have two full days at sea, hurray.

Some pics of our incredible day, hope you enjoy…
