Aug 11, 2022, Halifax, Nova Scotia

Today, we are in Halifax, Nova Scotia, one of Canada’s most historic communities and where the 19th century naval station, the Halifax Citadel National Site lies. Although this sight has never seen action it is very strategically placed facing the mouth of the harbour. Halifax also is home to Canada’s immigration museum where both my parents came through the Pier 21 immigration centre. So, pretty special to be here.

Today was a very nice for us in that we have some Vancouver friends that moved here some 7 years ago to reconnect with. Our friends met us pier side at about 9:30am and took us for a short tour to the Citadel and then to their home close to Peggy’s Cove, Indian Harbour. Brian and Margaret have a beautiful home on the water sitting on a very spacious 1.5 acres. Their home is comprised of 3 separate buildings, a main home, a wonderful artist studio and a shed. As you can see in the pictures they also have a beautiful garden of both flowers and vegetables, notice the size of the pumpkin. Margaret’s art studio is an artist dream, two floors with most incredible inspiring views. Amongst other very interesting career paths, Brian is a wonderful published author, writing under the name Bern Callahan, pictured is a copy of his second book, Shamrock, Patrick and Brigid in Ireland. With permission I have included a couple of Margaret’s work, if you are in the neighbourhood next month she is having a showing of her work at this amazing home studio named, Windhorse Studios.

We then had a wonderful lunch close to their home at Rhubard Restaurant, and then it was onto to visiting the picturesque, tourist sight of, Peggy’s Cove. A fantastic visit with them bringing us back to the ship at about 5:30pm. We picked up a few supplies before heading back to the ship for a quick shower, the 7pm show and then an 8 o’clock dinner at the Pinnacle. Back in the old days, perhaps to return at some point, we would have had Brian and Margaret back on the ship to have dinner with us. Once again a wonderful Pinnacle dinner. We had a most fantastic day here in Halifax.

A few pics, hope you enjoy…
