Well all good things must come to an end and with us at eighty days later, despite the current weather in Vancouver, it’s time to check back with home base. Getting off the ship this morning was probably one of the easiest disembarks for us ever. Up at about 7:30, breakfast from 8 to 8:30, went around took some pics of the ship and then walking off at about 9:30. There was a delay this morning with a power outage at the port but with our later flight, the later the better, so we just waited in the room sipping a cup of coffee. We said our goodbyes to a few more guests at the terminal before grabbing a taxi to the airport. At the time of writing this we hear that the Vancouver airport is currently closed due to a snowstorm, hmmm, that’s rare, figures - perhaps we should have stayed on board, lol. I will provide a full summary of our voyage in a few days or more likely after Christmas, stayed tuned.
A few pics from today and that of some of the unsung heroes. That said, it’s really the crew on the ship that makes the experience amazing, the energy they put out along with with such a focus on customer service really allows the journey and the cruise to shine. Florin, the Hotel Director is really the person that drives the ship’s crew personality, his openness and welcoming personality radiates through his almost 500 crew under his direct and indirect leadership. He simply loves his job and really just wants all his staff to “be happy”. Yes everyone has “stuff” to deal with but overall he bends his ear and genuinely wants you to be the best that you can be on any given day. With permission he has allowed me to post a picture of him standing on the bulbous nose of the Zaandam, his smile radiants as he really is on top of the front of the ship that will push the waters of the future of not only the Zaandam but a true mentor to the entire Holland America Fleet, Florin, we salute your, I was going to say work, but instead, I believe we should say, passion. We look forward to sailing with you once again…
