At Sea - Mar 06, 2013

Our sea day today was topped off with an incredible dining experience in the Pinnacle Restaurant as the restaurant converted to a Dutch 3 Michelin Star restaurant called De Librije. This restaurant has evolved an idiosyncratic cuisine, rooted in selected regional products enhanced by state of the art cooking techniques and reciprocal Asian touches. Creating modern innovative dishes while reinventing gastronomic classics. So in a nut shell, there are four chefs that work like artists for four days in creating these most unusual and delicious dishes. We were originally scheduled to have this experience just before Bali, but the ingredients came in a bit late so we were had to move this dinner to Mar 6th. We thank Carla at Steele’s Travel in giving us this experience that we probably would not have thought about doing otherwise. As mentioned this restaurant is a famous Dutch one and as this ship really caters to the Dutch (this is the only ship in the fleet that offers this dining experience) we would not have thought of participating. The meal in pictures with some commentary... and yes the table starts out very simple with only napkins present. Jan and I had the same meal as it sounded and looked sooo good. We began with the North Sea Scallop, served with black garlic pearls, celeriac juice with believe it on not bone marrow. Next up was our appetizer, Torched Langoustine with Green Bean Coulis, this presentation was truly amazing. The next course was a potato soup with Lobster and Chorizo served with incredibly displayed red Skin Potato Chips. Our main course was the Beef Tenderloin, served with bulgar wheat and smoked olive oil foam - amazing. Desert was two fold, it happened to be Jeff’s birthday so they brought us a delicious chocolate mouse cake - to sing happy birthday and then the they brought us our official last course called a Deconstructed Apple Pie, yes this was in fact deconstructed as the pictures show. Great meal, will update on our great day in Sri Lanka later today or tomorrow morning - really depends on the speed of the internet as we float along here in the calm seas off the West coast of India.
