Singapore, Singapore - Mar 1, 2013

Singapore for round two, many are calling this port Singapore 2. So with Jeff and Joy we head out to cover some areas of this city we missed the first time around. With a day metro pass in hand we hit the underground to visit the Arab street just outside of little India, it seems this area of the city was just waking up at 9:30 with many shops just opening up, lots of fabric and carpet shops in this part of the city. We then zipped over to Chinatown for lunch at a hawker market. Apparently these are the places to eat at in Singapore, all meals are made fresh and are delicious. A Hawker market is like a chinese version of a food fair, but no burger stands just lots of noodles and some unusual choices. Jeff purchased a sharing plate of something - lets just say it was all very good and no I am not sure what some of it was - kind of like one of those amazing race food challenges. After lunch we strolled through an open market back to the subway and down to the Esplanade to the Theatre on the Bay - this is the world’s largest and most expensive sculptural homage to the durian, king of all fruits. We headed here because it was very central and I had read about a top floor roof terrace giving incredible views - and yes the views were amazing with the bonus of no one else up there (not sure why - I guess they did not read the same article). We then went for a stroll along the water front to the famous Merlion statue, Singapore’s most famous statute. We sat in this main square and had a iced cappuccino and people watched for a while before heading back to the ship for dinner. A very nice day in Singapore. Some pictures of our day.
And also a special hello to friends at Yellow Point Lodge taking care of my dad Lance on his special 85th birthday weekend at the Lodge. Cheers!!!
