Puntarenas, Costa Rica - May 05, 2014

Looks like we are connected at the hip with the Coral Princess as we docked up along side of her at Puntarenus this morning at 6:30. We having been matching ports now along most of the Cruise. Okay by us...

Costa Rica is really a beautiful country, they are a very environmental people here and have steered away from the big resort developments, so everything feels very calm and peaceful, maybe it is from the mandatory 3% amount of the income tax collected going to the Catholic Church.

We opted for a HAL tour today, just to keep it simple as we are on vacation and sometimes it is just nice being taken care of. So today, Christian from Swiss Vacations took excellent care of us in our mini bus of 16 people. So to the Tropical Forest, Sky Walk & Pura Vida Gardens we go. Our tour read, The Sky Walk takes you into the rain forest to discover the wildlife that inhabits the Tarcoles River area. Chris did his best to point out everything that there was to see, many species of birds, some monkeys, butterflies as well as some crocodiles. After our walk, which included three high tree top crossings (really cool), we headed to the Pura Vida Gardens for a local lunch (delicious and all you could eat, of course). These Gardens are very beautiful and do contain many species of birds, such as macaws, parrots, parakeets, toucans etc. Now for the most part we could hear many of these birds and we then found ourselves very lucky to spot a Toucan, you know the Fruit Loops bird - hopefully the pictures turned out as I am writing this pre looking at todays pictures. These Gardens also offered us a vantage point of seeing one of Costa Rica's tallest waterfalls, Bijagual. From here we headed Santa Lucia's old town, really quite small with only one shop but they were having a huge blowout sale in pottery, so we picked up a few pieces.

Back to the ship by 4 o'clock and out to the local markets for some additional retail therapy by quarter after. Lines were pulled in by 6 as we make our way to Nicaragua tomorrow. The ship was having a LIdo BBQ tonight but we opted out due to our late and very filling lunch.

Hope you enjoy our pictures of todays activities...
