Noumea, New Caledonia - Nov 18, 2014

We are in a slice of France as we float from Australia to Fiji, New Caledonia is a cluster of islands in this part of the Coral sea which is blessed with an amazing massive coral reef. So yes, French is the main language here and the currency is the French Pacific Franc. Baguettes, Croissants along with beautiful flowers awaited us (Jeff, Ellie, Jan and I), as we headed off this ship first thing and to the main city, Marche (market).

We had a wonderful day here as we strolled some 15 miles from town to the Parc Zoologique & Forestier (Forestier Park - Botanical Gardens and Wildlife Park) and back. A few locals stopped us along the way the highway telling us that it is too hot and far to walk, we told them that we were used to walking and that a few kilometers for us was not that far. One driver, Orest, insisted on driving us the last kilometer, we agreed and were very happy we did. Before going to the Park he suggested and then drove us up to an amazing viewpoint, we said sure, love too. A very nice French gentlemen who lives six months here and six months in France, he and his wife have been doing this for the past 45 years. People are very nice here. The Park was excellent, yes the walk back was long and hot but no problem as there were very many view points to stop at along the way - yes, we did get offers to drive us back to the ship from another Frenchmen who pulled off the road. He was worried about our departure time, we told him in our lousy French/English that our ship was late leaving and that we just preferred to walk.

Lots of pictures today, I have never seen so many peacocks in one area, including in the trees and an attempted mating - incredible. The other surprising and incredible picturesque displays here are the graffiti work - usually not a big fan but some of these "art" works are just incredible, they just kept the camera clicking. At the end of this amazing day we had an incredible sunset completed with and outdoor seafood bbq. There are four uploads for today...

Hope you enjoy ...
