The Ryndam, our current home for three weeks. We are just over half through our stay here on the Ryndam touring the Caribbean and as you can see we are very much enjoying the experience offered here on board.
At a length of 720 feet with a 101 foot beam, the Ryndam came into service in 1996 and she can carry 1258 passengers with 560 crew. I know that only a short time ago she was completed gutted and refit, so for a ship that is almost 20 years old she is looking great, more than just lipstick and makeup, I would say a complete make over.
We were very fortunate today as we have a former captain on board that has been with HAL for some 33 years, Captain Albert J. Schoonderbeek. He is the company historian and is on board to train new officers perhaps for either the turnover of the Ship in October or for the new ship coming on stream early next year. He gave a wonderful lecture this morning on the entire history of Holland America, very interesting and informative.
Today's upload includes some pictures of some of the main areas of the ship as well as another great formal night here on board.
First up, is where we spend most of our days at sea and the sail aways, aft deck number 10. This ship has a great area just out back of the navigation deck.
Next if the aft pool area where everyday from noon to 2pm there is a steel drum player entertaining us - very Caribbean.
The Centre Lido pool with sliding glass roof.
The Crow's nest at the top and front of the ship.
The Gym and the Showroom at sea.
Ocean bar and The Mix bar, including a Martini Bar, Piano Bar and a Champagne Bar.
Pinnacle and Main Dining Room, followed by the Explorers Coffee area, Library and Internet Areas
Shore Excursions, Front Desk and the Atrium Area.
Outside Promenade area
A passing seagull and Jan with a little afternoon snack.
Pictures of tonight… Hope you enjoy.
