We took advantage of the distinction today as after our walk about town, we joined a HAL biking excursion to the Chilkat lake looking for Eagles. In short as it is late, the rain held off and we had a wonderful 9 mile bike tour through this picturesque wilderness as I am sure you will see in the pics. Another highlight of the day was a purchase of a mask carved by a local artist here in Haines, it will great on our mask wall up the coast. Hope you enjoy our pics of the day... Also pictured here is April, our wonderful bar waitress from a recent Grand Voyage, always great to see familiar faces and wonderful people.
Traveling to amazing destinations, meeting incredible people and experiencing diversified cultures, what a wonderful world.

July 20, 2016: Haines, Alaska
Haines is located in the northernmost portion of the Alaska Panhandle, this small city of about 2,500 residents, lies on the Chilkat Peninsula near Glacier Bay National Park. Although near the glacier, Haines enjoys one of the warmest climates in Alaska. One of the most popular attractions here is the Alaska Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. During the months of Oct through February, this sanctuary houses the largest number of bald eagles in the world.
