July 19, 2017: Alesund, Norway

We had a beautiful day in this usually rainy port, we were so lucky. This port was established on the early 19th century and has since earned its ranking as the most important fishing harbour in Norway due to its central location and the discovery of oil in the North Sea in the 1970s. We had no set plans today, just walked off and strolled around this very picturesque town and then set up the 418 steps to a fantastic viewpoint. We hiked down a different path as recommended by a local, the bonus here is that we came upon a few WWII German bunkers. These were incredible, we entered one with cell phone flashlights and it went on and on for quite a ways, like the size of a 3 bedroom house. A great day as we clocked more than 15,000 steps. It was a fantastic sail away as we were escorted out of the harbour by one of the Fire Ships that had all the hoses going, a wonderful display. We are in the land if the midnight sun, it is currently 11:30 and we have a bright sky out our window - time to use the blackout blinds. A few pics of the day, went way too crazy yesterday, will scale down the number as with the slow internet (because of where we are on the planet) I used almost my whole package last night. Hope you enjoy
