July 21, 2017: Akyreyi, Iceland

The weather gods keep shining on us as we experience another fabulous day and visit to this our first port in Iceland. Nicknamed the capital of north Iceland, the area around Akureyi was originally settled in the 9th century. Today it is a thriving port town with an economy largely based on its booming fishing industry. We walked off the ship just after it was cleared and joined a local tour to the Godafoss falls - about an hours drive away. Great about 3 hour tour there and back with some free time to take many pics of the falls which resemble a small version of Niagara falls. Back in town for a quick fish and chip lunch (excellent), then off to the most northerly botanical Gardens on the planet - how cool is that (66 degrees north). Dinner and then sail away out of this fiord was fantastic as we enjoyed watching the whales and dolphins. Here are a few pics of the day…
