April 26, 2023 - Oahu (Apr 21)

Oahu is the third largest island in the Hawaiian archipelago and is known as “The Gathering Place”. Oahu is home to the majority of Hawaii’s population with a fusion of east meets west meets the Native Hawaiian people. The great thing about Oahu is that one can go from a very busy metropolis to laidback surf town in less than an hour.

We were off ship shortly after 8 am and heading to the airport car rental in our trusty Uber. The most incredible thing here was at the car rental place. You see, Ed is a Gold member and with that his name appeared on a board showing, Gold. Not know what this meant he went and waited in line at the kiosk. I had read that “Gold” members never have to wait in line, so I wandered over to the Gold section where a worker just got out of a brand new Jeep Compass, beautiful. I asked him regarding this “Gold” thing, he said, “if his name has Gold written beside it, he can pick a car from any in the Gold area, this one has 600 miles on it”, anyone I said, yup was the reply. I let Ed know and a few minutes later we were off in the, very comfortable, Jeep.

We headed straight for the North Shore for some photo stops before making our way clockwise around the island. We, of course, made several stops along the way for pics and a quick McDonald’s lunch. Oahu is beautiful and is easy driving with renting a car is recommended to see as much as you can. Conversely though, if it is beach, shopping and restaurants you are after, no car is required as everything in Honolulu is close by. Ed and Dot were meeting their grand niece is Honolulu for dinner which gave us a chance to walk the famous Waikiki Beach and stop at the famous Duke’s for a beverage or two. We jumped in an Uber and were back on the ship just in time for our 8pm dinner. Yes, another wonderful day here in paradise.

A few pics of our day, hope you enjoy…
