January 14, 2019: Salaverry

Salaverry is a small town with the real only interest here is the culture of the Moche and Chimi people. Chan Chan, is an interesting site abode constructions, many compounds, hulas and ceremonial centres. The Hunca de luna of the Moche people is outstanding, the wall art is something to behold. The nearby museum is wonderful.
Our HAL sponsored shuttle took us to the town of Trujillo which is a stopover place along the Spaniard route between Lima and Quito. This coastal city was founded in 1535 and named after Francisco Pizarro’s birthplace in Spain. This city is famous for being the first in Peru to declare independence from Spain in 1820 and in the 1920’s it was the birthplace of APRA, Peru’s longest standing political party. We visited the Museo de Arquelogia, this is a small but very interesting exhibits of Peruvian History with some artifacts dating back to 12,000 BC. Artifacts over the many eras to include weapons, pottery, textiles and even a mummy in the last display case, quite amazing. From here we strolled the local market, Mercado Central and then to the main square of the Plaza de Armas and the main city cathedral. A bit of retail therapy and some wifi before heading back the shuttle stop and the ship for a very late lunch, grabbed a Cannon ball burger at the Dive In - awesome.

Very nice dinner tonight with Storm and Carol Ann, Marianne and Marcel are away for a few days as they are touring Machu Picchu, hope they are having a wonderful time, see them in a few days.

A few pics of our day, hope you enjoy…
