At Sea, Western Australia - Mar 18, 2020

We are now hearing of people with flights booked from yesterday are now cancelled as airlines are cancelling flights. We are told that HAL Seattle, Head Office is very actively “working on” getting us all home. We remain confident that HAL will come through, these are after all their most valued customers. That said, the exciting part of our day was the receiving our Platinum 700 day medallions. No fanfare though. Last night they landed on our bed with a note about having a picture taken in the atrium between 4 and 8pm. Okay so we arrive at about 6:30, and are old to stand on the “X” snap goes the picture and then next in line please. No Captain, no Hotel Director, no drinks and no party. We understand but thought there would be a bit more recognition on this. Funny on any other ship we would be pretty much the people with the most days cruised, on this we are way down the chain of seniority, I believe there are 88 president’s club members on board - these are guests with in excess of 1,400 days, double ours.

Today was the celebration of everything Orange as today was a celebration day for the Netherlands, the celebration of the King’s day, I believe. So very nice dinner as our dinner included the HAL Chorale choir singing some songs from Forrest Gump - so. yeah, no guest participation show this cruise. They did a very nice job with Jan standing in the front row, centre. Only a few pics of the day, hope you enjoy… The internet continues to be crap and very frustrating for many trying to make their plans.

Quote of the day - “Without laughter, life on our planet would be intolerable.” - Steve Allen
