Here we are sailing in the Doldrums, the area 5 degrees North and South of the Equator. The equator is the imaginary line on the Earth's surface equidistant from the North Pole and South Pole that divides the Earth into a Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere. The latitude at the Equator os 0 degrees. There is little wind here in the Doldrums as the wind currents from these two Hemispheres circulate and to about 5 degrees from the Equator and swirl back to there respective Hemispheres. You could almost waterski out here it is so calm.
