We headed straight back to the ship to catch the 40 children visiting from the Bernhard Nordkamp Centre that were set to perform for the ship at 2:00pm. The BNC is an initiative set up by Father Bernard Nordkamp in 1986, the centre provides orphans and vulnerable children with a place of safety and support. Its primary mission is to facilitate education as a means of combating the eroding effects of poverty, and it does this by running a balanced program of sporting, cultural, and social and craft activities.
These children traveled for two days to come to the MS Amsterdam where they where treated to whatever they wanted to have as a meal. We were informed that the ship no longer has any chicken nuggets on board. This was followed up with all the ice cream they could eat. The ship along with the guests had a silent auction over the past few weeks prior to our boarding. The guests through the many programs offered on board donated their creations where they were bid on. In short, the presentation at the end of the children's program were given a envelop full of cash, some $5,000 US. This money raised by the guests will go toward much needed desks for the school as well as other sports equipment. Wonderful to see not only the show they prepared for us but the surprise looks in the eyes of the centre's organizers when they received these funds.
Great day, hope you enjoy the pictures.
