Roseau, Dominica - April 24, 2014

Caribbean Island number two and we are quickly immersing ourselves into island life her,e mun. Very green here as it is known as the "nature island", first settled in the 16th century by the French. This island was then taken over by the British in the late 18th century. Today the French and British colonial architecture can be seen throughout the island. Laid back and relaxed best describes this island paradise, taxis here work on a community structure, so everyone gets a chance and prices are pretty much set for sites you may want to see. For us it was $20 US a head to go to Champagne Beach a 25 minute drive away, the driver waits for you - for however long you want the stay to be, for us 2 hours, then he drives you back while trying to earn a bit of a tip along the way while showing you some sites, total for the both of us, $45 tip in.

Champagne beach, really reef, is a very popular snorkel and scuba dive site and our two hours here were very well spent on the reef where you are swimming as though you are in a bottle of champagne, amazing. Dominica is formed within an area of seven active volcanoes, some more active than others. Around these active volcanoes there are these fissions where these volcanic gases escape, this are is very active with these so the result is a warm swimming experience amongst these gas bubbles. Highly recommended excursion.

Back to the ship just after 12:00, lunch and then a city walk about tour including a walk to the Botanical Gardens with some unusual plants and the remains of a Canadian donated bus where in 1979 a Hurricane brought down a tree and crushed the school bus, yes it was empty as it was just parked there overnight.

Pictures from the GoPro today will be few as ooops, part of my finger is in many of the shots, tried to edit out "my finger" as best I could, still is an amazing camera and today was a lesson learned day... Still hope you enjoy...

And of course, tonight another amazing sunset sail away with the steel drums playing in the background.
