At Sea, Crossing the Equator, April 10, 2014

Today we cross the Equator and with this crossing comes the visit of King Neptune and
his Bride to grant us safe passage. This of course at a cost as any crew who is crossing for the first time must be sacrificed to King Neptune with a ceremony. HAL always does this up right and everyone on board has a great time with all the antics of this event.

Our blog followers would have seen this from our other cruises, so this time I will provide the short version. The Polywogs (first time crossers) are read their crimes as they pertain to their positions on board, King Neptune and his Bride respond and then they are ordered to "kiss the fish"; they then are led to a table where they are doused in some kind of goop; then they are receive their verdict from the a panel of officers, including the ship's Captain, they are either dunked in the pool or must sit at the side of the pool to bake in the hot sun. King Neptune then thanks all on board and returns to the ocean granting us safe passage.

Yes, the pool is then emptied and scrubbed down ready for use later today, amazing, considering the mess.

Great fun, here are some pictures of the days events along with some pictures of our "Under the Sea" dinner this evening.
