January 01, 2017 - Paris, France: Part 1

Happy 2017 from the New Years Day parade on the Champs élysées. In a word fantastic. On the Champs they also had a no admission, Christmas market, this market went on for blocks and blocks and blocks. Picked up a few items of course. But it was cold, long john day cold, yes I packed them as I heard it could get cold here and I am very glad I did. The traditional New Years Day Parade here was incredible with many marching bands and other groups of entertainment from around the world, including a couple of really tall guys from New York, really really tall, amazing - these guys do not buy off the rack. The Parade begins at the Place de Concorde goes all the way to the Arc de Triumph and then back - a long way and great entertainment. We strolled right along with them as we checked out the Christmas market and then looked into a few of the stores opened on this holiday. The reopening of the Champs Elysees was quite the event to witness after it was closed for the New Years Celebrations. First up are street wide officers, followed by street wide police vans, then police cars and then the regular traffic. Based on the volume of traffic it looked to be the big deal to be one of the first to drive on the Champs in the new year. Its either that or the traffic here is just crazy and everyone was just waiting for the main street in Paris to reopen, lol. We spent most of the day here ending with an early dinner at one of the tourist trap restaurants on the Champs, kind of the thing to do. BTW, all tips are included with your bill even if the waitress says they are not, felt a little ripped off here. She was pretty convincing and we didn't want to make a scene. All in all a great day here in Paris as we called a bit of an early night, still getting time adjusted. A few pics of our day… This is Part 1.
