And the museum blitz continues, The intimate Rodin and the massive Orsay museums today. Both great in their own ways, the Rodin is housed in a mansion while the Orsay is in a former railway station. Rodin we just walked in, the Orsay, well was a bit crazy, about a half hour wait, even with our passes.
First the Rodin Museum, Auguste Rodin (1840-1917), was a modern Michelangelo, sculpted human figures on an epic scale, revealing thought their bodies his deepest thought and feelings. His most famous piece was the “the thinker”, said Rodin “it is a statue of myself”. The museum mansion houses many of his works as well as in the gardens where you will find the larger than life pieces. Rodin lived in this mansion and rented rooms out to other artists of his time.
The Orsay Museum houses French art from the 1800’s and early 1900’s, kind of picks up where the Louvre left off. This museum is the home of impressionism, the art of sun-dappled fields, bright colours and crowded Parisian cafe scenes. We once again had the Rick Steves audio tour at play as we meandered through this fabulous museum. Just a bit more on this App, he has several audio tours for not only museums, but city walks as well, plus other informative downloads. Not only saves a few bucks on some museum audio guides but gives plenty of other info, a great find for me just before we left. Not just Paris, all over Europe. Great day, loving the getaway, we ended our day with some window shopping and an early dinner. Now recharging our batteries for tomorrows adventure. Here are a few pics of our day, hope you enjoy… 2 Parts, Rodin in Part 1, d’Orsay in Part 2. With this new blog update, it looks like it is posting the pics in reverse order, older ones first. Hmmm.
