Happy Fat Tuesday to all. Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras) first occurred on Mar 3, 1699 and refers to events of the Carnival celebration, beginning on or after the Christian feasts of Epiphany (Three Kings Day) and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. Mardi Gras is French for “Fat Tuesday”, reflecting the practice of the last night of eating rich, fatty foods before the ritual fasting of the Lenten Season.
So it was okay to eat fatty rich food today? lol. Another nice sea day as we got a bit dressed up for the Carnival night, lots of fun - we even headed to the Crow’s nest for a dance or two to bring in the celebration. The only quandary we have is that we will not have a Wednesday or in this case an Ash Wednesday. You see tonight is the night that we cross that imaginary line in the Pacific known as the International Date Line, so at two in the morning our clocks will slingshot ahead 23 hours - in our case we put the clocks back an hour and change to date to Thursday, so no Wednesday. Does that mean we should not have celebrated Fat Tuesday? Hmmm. The ship is still going to have a service for Ash Wednesday but it will our Thursday but your Wednesday… So we started out on this cruise 3 hours ahead of Vancouver (PST), only to have matched your time zone (for those following at home of course) a few days ago in Pitcairn and as tomorrow will be some 21 hours ahead of you, boggle, boggle, boggle.
A few pic of our day, hope you enjoy…

If you have enough time in Sydney, GO at the fish market (2nd biggest one in the world) and go there for your lunch. Any fish is cooked on the spot even fish and ship. It is 15 minutes walk from Downtown.
