San Antonio, Chile - Feb 11, 2020

San Antonio is located in the Valparaiso region of Chile and the port city of San Antonio lies amongst the rolling hills and coastal dunes just north of the mouth of the Maipo River. It is one of the busiest fishing ports in Western South America, San Antonio is the of a vast fishing area that spans the Chilean coast from Rocas de Santo Domingo to Cartagena. The Valparaiso region’s Mediterranean like climate has earned it a solid reputation as a wine producer, where nearby Rosario Valley produces some of Chile’s best Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir wines.

Cruise ships used to dock up the way at Valparaiso but since a Chinese owner took over the port in Valparaiso cruise ships are basically no longer welcome, so they now dock in San Antonio where we are now. We stayed in the city as they had a great boardwalk with enough action to keep us entertained, the boardwalk stretched probably just over a kilometre, with a great fishing market at the end with planty of Sea Lions and seals hanging on the rocks. Many people took tours today to both the capital of Santiago and / or Valparaiso, with some heading to wine country. As noted we just explored the harbour area for some two to three hours before getting some great wifi at the port and then back to ship for a late lunch and a great sail away. The weather was a comfortable 23 degrees celsius, so perhaps time to put away the winter gear, yeah… A few pics of our day, hope you enjoy.
