August 9, 2019, Bunratty, Ireland - part 1 the castle

A bit of change of plans today when we noticed the Bunratty Castle across the street from our hotel. After a bit of research we found this to be a major site to see so we thought that we would give the day. Bunratty Castle began its existence in 1250 and was built and added to over many centuries. The present castle, last of a series on the same site was built around 1425. During the 16th and 17th centuries it was an important stronghold of the O’Briens - Kings and later earls, of Thomand or North Munster. It is furnished with mainly 15th and 16th century furnishings in the style of the period of the Great Earl. The main block has three floors, each consisting of a single great room, or hall. The four towers have six stories each. We had a bit of on again and off again rain so we waited for a clearing just noon before heading over. Tip, book tickets online for a bit of a savings. We then started hearing talk about the incredible medieval dinner and show they perform on a nightly basis. Silly me thinking I could just book this. Talked to one couple who had booked this some 7 months ago. Lol. Some pics of the castle...
