2:20am wake up call, okay alarm, Taxi out front at 3:00 am. Airport check in and then the, hurry up and wait begins. All actually went slow but smoothly, no problems, no hick ups, no getting pulled aside for a random check, so all good. Air Transit direct flight to Fort Lauderdale was a blessing, direct is best. Air Transit runs a daily charter between Vancouver and Fort Lauderdale beginning in December through to about April. So coming back we will need to do a hop and skip through Dallas - but we will look at that much later.
For now we are thrilled and feel very fortunate to be to embark on the 2020 ms Amsterdam World Cruise, 128 days around our planet naturally, meaning no canals, so around the two Capes, Cape Horn and Cape of Good Hope. We will be floating back through the amazing Antarctic while also visiting many new ports, from Easter Island, Pitcairn Island, the Maldives, the Seychelles as well as several new ports in Africa, including a 4 day Safari out of Richards Bay. We combine this with also several repeat ports so we able to delve a little deeper into ports like Rio deJaneiro, Auckland, Sydney and Cape Town to name a few. So yeah, 128 days, the longest for us to date, not sure we will be doing a stretch like this again, it just take so much organizing and planning as well as getting all the things one needs for this long, like medications. I swear that half of one of Jan’s suitcases is meds. lol. Combine this with the emotional stress of being aways from family and friends for this amount of time. Very happy to read the Cruise Critic board on this subject, we are no the only ones feeling this way, so we will all be in the same boat together, emotionally and well, actually.
So we are off and here tonight in our hotel of choice, the Quality Inn on Stirling Road, one night and then tomorrow we jump on board the majestic ms Amsterdam, our old friend, we have not done a good stint on her since the fall of 2014 - a reunion of sorts on many fronts.

We will be posting on more or less a regular basis while remaining as current as possible - sometimes the ship’s internet can be a bit slow, so bare with us during these times.
