My google write up quotes, Kyoto, once the capital of Japan, is a city on the island of Honshu. It's famous for its numerous classical Buddhist temples, as well as gardens, imperial palaces, Shinto shrines and traditional wooden houses. It’s also known for formal traditions such as kaiseki dining, consisting of multiple courses of precise dishes, and geisha, female entertainers often found in the Gion district.
Our full day tour today describes our tour as:
Today, you'll visit Kinkakuji Temple -- a Zen temple in northern Kyoto. The top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf for a totally stunning effect.
Arashiyama, in the far west of Kyoto Prefecture, is tucked along the base of the Arashiyama Mountains. The Togetsukyo Bridge is a well-known central landmark here. Visit the Tenryuji Temple, a Zen temple with a beautiful Japanese garden, and Arashiyama's famous bamboo groves found nearby. North of central Arashiyama, the ambience becomes more rural, with several small temples scattered along the base of the wooded mountains.
Enjoy a Shojin-style lunch consisting of vegetarian dishes similar to those served to monks.
This was another full day of driving about 3 hours in total but well worth the trip into this former capital. The lunch was very good and tasty, many different vegetarian option with some unusual textures and flavours. This was a wonderful and recommended tour as it broke up the day nicely having this special feature of the monk lunch.
Some pics of our day, hope you enjoy…
