September 28, 2024 - Sakaiminato, Japan

Our info on this port reads: Sakaiminato is home to Shigeru Mizuki, creator of GeGeGe no Kitaro (a character who’s everywhere in contemporary Japan), and gateway to the ancient region of Honshu, site of the famous “Black Castle.”

This was a very short day in port, we arrived at 9:00 am with an all aboard time of 2:30. Couple that with the last shuttle leaving the downtown drop off port at 1:25 pm and you have really shortened the day up. We were actually okay with this given the last few days of go go go. So, as mentioned in the write up this is the home Shigeru Mizuki and all his characters that he created. So with that there are probably about three blocks of really an outdoor walking museum that contains all of the characters that he created. This made for a nice couple of three hour stroll amongst these characters with making several stops along the way. I even had a chance to sample some of local specialty here, snow crab, delicious.

This afternoon on board we were in for a treat, Chef Morimoto was performing a live demonstration on the World Stage. He was filleting a 150 pound Blue Fin Tuna, wow. The bonus was that they were going to be serving this tonight in the Main Dining Room Restaurant. Needless to say, I asked for a double portion. Yes, it was mouth watering fantastic. Wow, two Morimoto meals in a roll, now this was a nice surprise.

Some pics of our day, hope you enjoy…
