September 7, 2024 - Scenic Cruising of Hubbard Glacier

We have visited Alaska some 6 times and have to visit the magnificent Hubbard Glacier. Hubbard Glacier is about 7 miles at the face while settling back into the ice field about 27 miles. This glacier shows over 400 feet high off the surface of the water and is known to calf towers of ice some 3 or 4 stores high.

We had a spectacular sunny time here in our ship’s time slot. The captain was able to get pretty close before spinning around about 3 rotations before we had to depart. Yes, we were able to enjoy several calving experiences even one the size of the mentioned 3 to 4 towers collapsing into the ocean with a thunderous crash.

A beautiful cruising day, hope you enjoy our few photos of the day…

This first pic shows a clear line between the deep sea and the glacier water.
