March 2, 2019: At Sea

A nice relaxing sea day filled with all the usual activities. Fun fact for today is our exact location and it has do with the earth and the sun. Our Guest speaker on board, Jim McParland calculated our position in relation to how the sun moves (actually how the earth moves) over time between the seasons. So as the earth rotates on its axis and moves vertically back and forth (which causes our change in seasons) the calculation is that the earth moves at a rate of 1 foot per second from say March 21 to September 21. Anyway, I know a bit confusing but at the end of the calculation, today where we are (the ship) it is at the point where the sun and the ship are at their closest point, meaning that at 12:00 noon today we would not have a shadow as the sun is absolutely directly overhead. Pretty cool. It took about to 12:15 before the clouds to clear to get the sun effect but it was true, no shadow.

Tonight we had Henk and Lucia (from Cruise Specialists) as our table guests, we have been trying to get together for some time so it was wonderful that tonight we were able to make this happen. So a very nice dinner. Only a few pics from today, hope you enjoy…. We are in another new Brazilian port tomorrow, Fortaleza and yes, again during Carnival so looking out for some more fun.
