We return for the third time to the wonderful pastel coloured skyline of Willemstad as we round the final bend of this Grand Voyage. Curacao boasts some 38 beaches with reef systems that beckon diving enthusiasts from all over the world. This is the “C” in the Dutch ABC islands where Curacao is the largest and most populous and cosmopolitan of the former Lesser Antilles. Aptly named for the Portuguese word “heart” upon discovery in 1499, this island is rich in cultured roots in history and hospitality, it certainly holds a place in our hearts.
Today we went and enjoyed one of the many beaches on this island in Blue Bay. A few guests including Michel and Travis enjoy diving and this is a great spot to do a beach entry dive. So we all tagged along for an afternoon in the sun on the beach and in the warm Caribbean waters. This location is recommended, for $7.50 PP return there is a shuttle that picks you up and in about 20 minutes you arrive in this gated community beach area - there is also a golf course here. $8.00 gets you a chair with plenty of sunny and shady spots available to enjoy. Snorkelling is also available for $15 USD. There is a bar and a restaurant here which have reasonably priced fare. So a nice way to spend the day. We returned to the ship by about 6pm and dropped off our beach stuff and then three of us turned back around and headed into town for a quick walk around before returning for dinner and bonus, Bohemian Rhapsody movie tonight in the show lounge (perhaps a tad chilly in the lounge?). So a long but excellent day. Here are a few pics of our day, hope you enjoy… Note: If you are finding yourself getting short of US cash, many of the ATM’s here have a US currency option on the withdrawal screen - came in handy for us today.
