July 02, 2017: Furore Amalfi Coast, Italy

We are in paradise here the Santi Alfonso, Agriturismo resort here on the Amalfi coast. Last nights upload just didn't work, not for the lack of internet but me keeping my eyes open - a long but good day. Pompeii was fantastic, great to go through here once again after almost 20 years and this resort is fantastic, total of 9 rooms so with the 17 of us we have the run of the place.

First Pompeii, Pompeii is easily accessible from Naples, a train can get you here within an hour. Entry tickets are available on site but I would recommend purchasing on line in advance to avoid some big line ups (of course this depends on the time of the year). This is our second time here and both times we were on a tour and had a local guide. Getting into a group with a guide really is the best way to tour this historical site. You could walk around on your own but a guide would bring this city back to life as they transport you back to 79 AD and put you into the life and times of the era as well as the events of that fateful day when Pompeii stopped - incredible. Also and as mentioned in my previous post to complete the circle of this visit you should try to visit the Archeological Museum in Naples - all artifacts from Pompeii and held here and are wonderfully preserved.

Now to the Agriturismo of Santi Alfonso, words cannot describe the beauty of this place. We are about a thousand feet above sea level on what seems to be the edge of a cliff. This former Monastery has been lovingly restored and turned into the Argiturismo accommodation. The pictures help in showing this stunning place but also include is the original press used to make wine and olive oil. The 12 metre high oak tree was the centre point of this press where the farmhouse (now accommodation) was built around - yes it actually still works, one of two that still exists in Italy if not Europe. Hope you enjoy the days pics…
