Yesterday was excursion day where most (13) of our group headed over to Capri, the luxury jet set island just off the coast of Sorrento. From our Agriturismo we were taxied down to the village of Praia and to the marina. The company we used was La Boa and because we were 13 they used two boats, we were fortunate to be in a classic 30 foot spacious wood craft, beautiful. They do a very good tour circumnavigating Capri, stopping at the Marina Piccolo. This Marina is on the on the other side of the island that all the other bigger commercial vessels dock at, so although a bit quieter from all the big boats still pretty busy as this is where the main beach of Capri is. We just love Capri, the water is just so such an amazing azure blue and warm. The rock outcroppings are mesmerizing and with the amount of mega mega yachts out here we are not alone in this discovery. All the big players are here in this jet setting paradise. This island does cater to this set with the lavish hotels, restaurants and boutiques. We had three hours to enjoy on the island, there is a local bus service which is very reasonably priced and does run on a pretty continuous schedule for a couple of Euros this little bus will take you to the main town of Capri and / or to Anacapri. Paul and Cathy's first time here so we headed to the main town of Capri for a walk about before taking the bus over to Anacapri (our third time here and we have never been to Anacapri). We checked out the main Grand Hotel Quisisana, starting at about $1,100 CAD gets you a park or pool view room, for the Med view you can simply double that price (per night) - indeed how the other half live. This is an amazing hotel and if you have the cash, this would definitely be on the bucket list of places to stay not only in Capri but on the places to stay in the world bucket. The streets here on Capri are narrow and quaint, lined with the high end boutiques along with lemonade stands and restaurants all with alfresco dining - did I mention that it is just beautiful here. After our walk about, as mentioned we bused it over to Anacapri (a smaller version of Capri) to walk around and grab a kiosk lunch and enjoying it sitting in the shade of a wonderful little piazza. Timing wise we used just about all our time as we got back down to the Picolla Marina with only about 5 minutes to spare before our launch puled up. Made us feel pretty upscale as we waited only for minutes before our classic wooden craft pulled up to the rock dock to allow us to step on board. Our driver then pulled away from the dock and within minutes dropped anchor so we could enjoy the warm waters of Capri whilst swimming amongst the jet set mega yachts - these yachts have the amazing toys floating off of them. Back on board to complete our circumnavigation of Capri with making another swim spot in a very nice spot about half way back to Praia. Our drivers were waiting for us as we returned and whisked us back up to the Agriturismo for a hot tub, shower and then another cooing demonstration followed by another fantastic home made, family style dinner. We are indeed have the time of our lives here on the Amalfi Coast.
Great day…
