We were packed up on the road by about 10:45am, taking Hwy 89 pretty much the entire 140 miles from Page to Hurricane. The Hwy changed to the 89A at Kanab and then to the 389 at Fredonia with the last change to the 59 as we passed Colorado City. It was during that final stretch when we could see some lightning off in the distance and then some incredible, car wash, force rain. The wipers were going full on and we could barely see out the front windshield, wow. Then my next thought was, well the truck and Andiamo could use a good rinse - well this is what they got alright.
Our RV Park, WillowWind RV, is very nice. We are surrounded by beautiful mature trees giving us a wonderful shady canopy, something we haven’t had in a few weeks. Full hook ups, hooray but, we were guided in by a staff member with a golf cart, who also helped in finding what he thought was a good backing location. So, I level and unhook and begin my set up routine, ah, my plug is about 8 inches short of the pedestal - the pedestal is in a strange spot. Shoot, I am not thrilled, my first item on my list is check all plug ins before unhooking and I did not do this, I am a little upset with myself. Okay start over and re hook up, but now the ball will not set properly on the coupler. This two minute procedure now turns into ten. I then move the trailer inch by inch over until I can comfortably plug in, turns out that I had to move about a foot over, totally restricting our camping side. Oh well, it’s done. I only bring this up to help me solidify in my mind the importance of this step, thanks for listening.
Jan was smart throughout this ordeal as we are very close to a strip mall where she saw that there was a salon and was able to get an appointment. Jan saved herself from all my under the breath grumbling. We relaxed a bit before heading out to find a spot for dinner. Along this main strip in this town there must be at least 7 Mexican restaurants, so yes we had Mexican last night, lol.
Today, the 13th, was going to be another wonderful day of meeting up with some cruise ship friends, Alex and Yolanda. They came by our site at about 12:30pm to not only see our setup but Alex offered to do the driving today so I could play tourist, fantastic. We thank them for the awesome day that began with a lunch at a Peruvian Chicken restaurant (Viva Chicken) in the town they live in, St. George. From here they took us to a most incredible amphitheater, Tuacahn, at the mouth of the Padre Canyon. This breathtaking outdoor amphitheater is surrounded by 1500 foot high red cliff walls in the mouth of this canyon. They perform many broadway and Disney type shows here, tonight is Tarzan, rotating with Charlie and the chocolate factory tomorrow. This theatre also hosts many concerts including, Willie Nelson, the Beach Boys, along with comedians like Jay Leno and Jeff Foxworthy. Oh to see a show in this setting…
Leaving the theatre, our drive continued through what Alex called, little Zion, or the Snow Canyon State Park - beautiful as our pics will attest. Our final stop today was at the site of Mountain Meadows Massacre, a horrible act brought on by the Mormon militiamen who carried out this 1857 massacre camped in various locations in this valley. A beautiful sight and memorial now stands here. There are plenty of wonderful hikes that one can take in this area as well.
A wonderful day, thank you again Alex and Yolanda for reaching out and taking the time with us today. We will look at tackling Zion tomorrow.
Some pics of our last few days.
