Jun 16-17, 2023 - Andiamo to Provo and Tremonton, Utah

Really just a couple of travel days to get us up to our next stay in Yellowstone National Park. We left Hurricane (Zion) and basically headed north along the I15, not really my idea of a great time but ever once in a while you just gotta run on an interstate highway. The difference of this one was the speed limit, 80 miles per hour, that’s about 130 klms, for those following along in Canada or pretty much the rest of the world, lol. I, personally, just don’t like towing at that speed, just too many things can go wrong and at those speeds the result just wouldn’t be good. Along with those speeds we got into several cross wind situations, the truck towed fine but could really feel when a gust hit, I was happily locked into the slow lane clipping along at 65 mph.

Four hours in we pulled into the Provo KOA, which although a nice park, they really pack them in once again. So much potential here with an incredible mountain backdrop. They have all the usual amenities, like a pool, nice bathhouses and a good value, laundry but the one had a fabulous games room. Well bigger than a room as it housed, 3 big screen TVs, 2 pool tables, a good arcade, 3 good size sitting lounge areas as well as a two lane bowling alley, yes a bowling alley and finally a giant size, wall mounted, scrabble board. Just, unfortunately, they like to pack them in. Our site was the last before the tenting area. We could not open either side awning, the truck only fit because I had to park half of it on the grass - a no no. The tents were so close it looked like they shared tent spikes, yikes. We just did some shopping at our new favourite store, Trader Joe’s, came back and grilled up some dinner on the new Blackstone before heading in and closing all our curtains, putting on the ac and enjoyed a bit of Netflix before crashing at about midnight.

The morning was just about getting organized, hooking up and leaving at the, get out of the park, 11 am check out time - we left at 11:04, ha.

Two hours later we rolled into our first Harvest Host experience, really cool. There are 2 programs that fall under this program, Harvest Hosts and Boondockers Welcome. Harvest Hosts are typically, farms, wineries or some other home  or farm that has some kind of production. So if you have the space you welcome Rvers to dry camp on your property. In exchange they usually have an area where they sell there products that they produce. This Harvest Host has 3 parking slots, set on bark mulch. This is Harland Homestead, and they are a full up and running farm, with the focus on Alpacas. They have goats, pigs, turkeys, chickens and Alpacas of course plus other animals. The store carries the eggs, goat milk and other goat byproducts as well as some Alpaca items, socks, scarves etc. Unlike the KOA, we are here with only one other couple, they are full timers occupying the other 2 slots. So, we need to rely on our batteries and solar and our holding tanks. We came up with empty tanks and the hosts were kind enough to give me a hose to fill my water tank. The charge to stay here is zero, well they, like many other Harvest Hosts ask that you purchase about $20.00 of their products. We purchased, a dozen eggs, some goat doggy treats, some freshly made sourdough bread and a pot scrubber.

On the other side of this program is Boondockers Welcome. These are folks that have an extra spot or more on their property, that have the room and love people (typically former RVers), so they list themselves on the website, giving you a free safe place to spend the night.

Usually under both these programs, the stay is typically one night but some do offer stays up to five nights. Many offer same day requests while others like to have some kind of notice. This is a great program that I believe is up about 6 thousand hosts signed on. The cost for both programs is about $130 USD per year. This gives you membership and access to the Harvest Host Website. So this is our first and I think I looked at this two days ago and ask Jan if she wanted to stay at a farm in a few days, sure, so booked and done.

Some pics of our last few days, hope you enjoy…

The awning is not fully extended here. Grilling up some grub at the KOA.

Tight fit.

But a beautiful view out back.

A Tabernacle here in Utah.

Just outside the KOA.

Our first Harvest Host.

We had a Turkey of a visitor, lol.

Hey, these are not all the same colour. Should we bring them back? Lol

Nice selfie.
