June 22, 2023 - Yellowstone Ntl Park, Day 3

Today was short quick visit back to this fantastic national park. On day one we passed the huge line up going to the Midway Geyser Basin just because we were excited to see Old Faithful. I did note as we went past the huge parking lot line up that just a little ways down the road there is another trail access to this amazing site. So like a few days ago there was once again a huge line to get into this parking lot but today was the day to view this sight. As mentioned, we passed this line to the secondary trail where there was a parking spot waiting for us, hooray.

Parking here is actually closer to the elevated view of the entire basin, yes further to the actual boardwalks but for us today we were only looking for the overview, so this worked out very well.

We spent the balance of our time at the West Gate Village, a tourist town at the west gate. There are many scenic old buildings that date back to the early 1900’s, many now souvenir shops. The base population here is 1,200 and caters to approximately 12,000 tourists a day during the busy summer months. So a nice way to spend a relaxing third day here. Tomorrow will be a chill day, aka sea day, to prepare ourselves for a self imposed long drive tomorrow to get the lion’s share of the driving out of the way.

A few pics of this day, hope you enjoy…
