Jun 5, 2023 - Grand Canyon National Park

Our brochure reads, Welcome to a World of Wonder, Grand Canyon National Park.

One if the seven natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon measures 270 miles long, up to 18 miles wide and a mile deep, making it one of the biggest and grandest canyons in the world.

On February 26, 2019, Grand Canyon National Park celebrated 100 years since it’s designation as a National Park. The Grand Canyon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and welcomes visitors from around the globe.

Does it live up to its hype, you bet. This is one amazing site to see and we are so happy to have spent a good day here. The Grand Canyon National Park is about a 45 minute drive from our KOA campground with us showing up at the gates at about 11:45.

Our plan of attack was to first find parking, a perfect spot presented itself with minutes as a saw a black mustang’s reverse lights come on, excellent. We were only steps from the visitor centre and our first viewpoint, Mather Point. We then strolled the Rim Trail to the Yavapal Point and Geology Museum. All in this was close to two hours with the many photo stops on the way. Just a side note, upon leaving the truck I realized that my Nikon battery had died, ooops. Many of our pics are with our cell phones. I did plug the phone into the truck to have it available later in the afternoon.

We moved the truck to the Market Plaza for a late grab n go lunch before making the journey over to the East Rim. This area was much less crowded and we were able to make many stops at all the view points along the way. A few hours later we had made it over to the Desert View Watchtower. This drive and the entire day was breathtaking, better than what we had ever imagined.

Tomorrow we are heading back to take in the other side leading to Hermits Rest. Now this will involve using the shuttle service provided for free by the park service. The only issue we will have is with Zhalbey, apparently there is a great day kennel service in town, so we will check that out.

For now here are some of our pics from the fabulous day, hope you enjoy. Yes, we got a little selfie happy, lol…

On the road to the Grand Canyon

The big picture.

Oh my, talk about instant gratification. We arrive on the rim within 10 mins.

Just never know who or what shows up. This Elk surprised me by walking right past me. Crazy…

Absolutely amazing…

The Grand Canyon does not disappoint.

You can actually hike down from here. We know someone that did this last year. Wow, just wow, Mike R.
