After our wonderful stay at the Harvest Host, it should have been an easy two hours to Idaho Falls but the wind was a howling causing us to keep our rig at a comfortable 62 mph as we watched semis go past us shaking away. This is all part of my learning curve, yes I could have gone a bit faster but, as mentioned, I have yet to feel comfortable. This wasn’t horrible but I felt I really needed to watch the traffic around us. The compounding issue came when we arrived at Idaho Falls. There was a campground here that had some good reviews but when we arrived there just wasn’t the right vibe, if you know what I mean. There looked like some full timers with fires of a blazing kind with all standing around, yeah, we’re out of here. When we looked up a few more campgrounds, the ones we saw also did not have raving reviews. We felt we should just move on to the next town some 30 minutes away. The good news was that Idaho Falls had a Walmart superstore here which had my Nespresso pods, hooray and a few other items that other stores did not have. Oh, and they also had Walmart, cheap gas, hooray again.
So we were then off to the next town that had a campground named, Willow Wind, hey we had good luck with our other WillowWind let’s check it out. We pull up and the sign says closed, insert sad face. We try to contact someone, anyone here but no. They had sites available but no way of confirming, so off now to the next town, Ashton, another thirty minutes away. At this point I’m pretty much done, I just want to call it a day. Campendium is showing us, Eagle Peak RV and Cabins, okay but that’s it, I’m not going any further. Well, let’s just say this turned into a little oasis of a campground. It’s either new or off season but of what appeared to be a hundred plus sites only about 20 occupied. The sign on the way in said, come in and find a site and phone us at this number with your site details, okay, we can do that. We found a wonderful completely level site in the back, that by any standards (think KOA), was huge. No levelling blocks required and the front / back was level enough for me to stay hooked up. The site also had 50 Amps, great water pressure and a sewer hookup, all for $50 USD. I was able to just go to the website and process my details and make payment. Within minutes a confirmation email was received, no fuss no muss this is exactly what we needed. As we were cooking dinner on the Blackstone the skies gave us an incredible sunset. This day ended well.
This morning we only had a half hour drive ahead of us, so easy, especially considering that we were already hooked up. We arrived at Yellowstone Park RV at Mack’s and as we pulled in our golf cart escort was already waiting for our arrival. This was excellent, he guided us to our site, guided me in to the spot (yes, I checked before hand about the hookups - their great website offers 360 views) and then moments later he delivered our paperwork, I have yet to go into the office. All great.
We set up, had some lunch a bit of a break and then checked out the Upper and Lower Mesa Falls about a half hour away. Despite a bit of rain, just beautiful. We are looking forward to Yellowstone tomorrow.
Some pics of our last few day, hope you enjoy….
The Oasis is found. Nice overnight stay here.
Several stand alone cabins.
Great large RV sites with 50/30 hook ups.
Magpie
Amazing sunset at the end of a blustery day.
Checking out the Upper and Lower Mesa Falls about 30 mins from our Yellowstone RV Park.
There is a trail between the two falls. We passed due to weather.
The Lower Mesa Falls.
