Sept 18, 2018: Saint-Jean-de-Losne, France

Our wake call this morning were the engines starting at about 7:20, listened to the rumble for 15 minutes before rising and looking out our water level window. Another beautiful day to greet us. This morning enjoyed my cappuccino and breakfast on the front deck as the water was gently pushed off the bow of our barge. Noticed a bit of an exchange between our captain and first mate, weather coming in? Sure enough within an hour we had some heavy rain and hail as we left the canal and headed up the Saône river towards, Saint-Jean-de-Losne. The storm pasted in about an hour and a half and before long we were back on deck enjoying some warm sunshine. Today was a chance to enjoy our barge without any touring commitments, nice. Had a tour of the kitchen and if you have followed our blog you have seen the kitchen tours aboard cruise ships, this one was much different. Our chef, Pierre, makes our most amazing lunches and dinners out of a closet size kitchen. As you can see in the pics he does not have very much room so how he prepares and plates 24 daily meals is masterful.

Our lunch today was escargot served with a nice sauce with a pastry followed by a melt in your mouth beef tenderloin, served with vegetables and a red wine reduction sauce. Yes, we did very nice white and red wines to match. A nice piece of soft (72% cream) cheese was served before our dessert of cheesecake.

A nice after lunch nap was enjoyed as we slipped into Saint-Jean-de-Losne at about 3 pm. A quick walking tour and back to the barge for a bit of a rest before dinner, seems like yesterday’s heat and ride took a lot out of many of us, me included. A group of about 16 of us headed out to our guide’s recommended restaurant at an old home turned B&B close by the barge. Demeure de l’ile Rollet was originally built in 1847 and is just a beautifully kept old home serving a buffet style all inclusive meal. A nice time had by all as we where thoroughly entertained by the owners and staff (Bibi). I was able to take a few pictures of the available attic room and the main floor of the home. My camera has seemed to decided to have a mind of its own, so I need to look at it in the morning.

A another nice day here, hope you enjoy the few pics...
