February 14, 2019: Puerto Madryn, Argentina

A Very Happy Valentine’s Day to all. Our daily program (I know, Where and When) read, sunny with a high of 33 degrees today, Linda, our cruise director, said it was a mistake and that the high was going to be about 21 degrees. Well, it certainly was a hot one where the temperature was a least 33 of even 34 degrees. So we went from bundled up winter wear to shorts and flip flops in the manner of two days. No, we are not complaining as we have seen the forecast from back home, sorry but I will take the hot over the cold any time.

Puerto Madryn was founded by Welsh immigrants in 1865, the town takes it name from Love Parry, Baron of Madryn. The beaches here attract residents form Buenos Aires looking for a quick getaway, while tourists, like us, are looking to catch a glimpse of the town’s biggest attraction, Right Whales. Puerto Madryn is the second largest fishing fishing port in Argentina and is home to the countries first aluminum plant. It is also said that this city is trying to become like the Rio of Argentina, the beaches here are big and beautiful.

For us it was an easy port day with no tours or agenda, just get out in the beautiful weather and stretch our legs and this port was perfect for that as the waterfront boardwalk stretched some 5 or 6 kilometres that we took full advantage of. We strolled down as far as a beautiful big hotel which offered easy free wifi, perfect was able to get caught up some lingering internet stuff. We took some nice pics, some featuring the seals in this port as well as our ship up against the monstrous, Celebrity Eclipse as well some pics of the ice damage done to our hull (ice chips cut like glass shards) and finally our Valentine’s Day dinner with our beautifully decorated dining room. Wonderful day and great dinner. Hope you enjoy our few pics of the day…
