We had a little rain this morning as we munched on our buffet breakfast here at the hotel, just a bit of scattered showers. Great breakfast and in no hurry (for once), relaxed until about noon when the showers stopped and we headed the fifteen minute drive to Amboise. Our delay was actually twofold, one because of the weather and two, a mister Mike Jagger apparently frequents the restaurant at this hotel whenever he is around, he owns a mansion close by. Our tour operator spotted him in his classic convertible red Rolls Royce about two weeks ago and said he is still around. Well I guess today was not a good day to be out in the convertible as we saw from the picture our operator showed us. So off we went...
This is noted in my book as, this historic heap became the favoured royal residence in the Loire under Charles VIII, who did most of the building in the late 15th century. Charles is actually famous for killing himself by walking into a door lintel on his way to a tennis match (yup, this happened). Later, more careful occupants include Louis XII and Francois I, who basically brought the Renaissance here in 1516, in the person of Leonardo da Vinci. This a beautiful castle / Château on the banks of the Loire, very strategic in that both views of up and down can be clearly seen from here. Again, remember this area is the dividing point between North and South France.
Here are a few pics if this part of the day...
