First a moment of silence to reflect on our veterans on this Remembrance Day!
We are very close to many of the main attractions, like a 4 minute walk to the Borghese Gardens, 15 minutes to Spanish steps, 15 minutes also to the Trevi fountain, you get the idea. We covered all these high points in our brief wonder out in this great city. We strolled up the street and into the gardens, a different and new entry point for us, so something new. We meandered around and took in the sites coming out at the Piazza del Popola and the Porta Flaminia entry gate. There was a little market outside the gate selling knickknacks, clothes, shoes etc. We did a quick wander through before entering the Piazza, this is the plaza for the people and were many people gather to sit and chat, have a lunch and watch the world go by. Down the street from here you come to the Spanish steps, made popular by the movie, Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn in, I believe, 1953. The steps themselves are part of a monument and thereby it is against the law to sit or lay on them, the police are in full force here and are prepared to fine you from 250 to 400 euros for violating. We took our few pics and continued a Roman wander down to Trevi Fountain. Three coins in the fountain once again for us, not sure how many coins we have tossed into this fountain over the years, probably enough to buy a 9 euro pizza which was our next stop close to the fountain. The Trevi fountain was beautiful as usual and with it being November not to busy, you could get down to the fountain very easily. A little window shopping on the way back to the hotel for the mandatory jet lag nap. I did happen to take a few pics of the room before the usual last day, oh my, I haven’t taken any room pictures yet moment, lol. The room is very nice and big for European standards, so very comfortable and yes the 2 light fixtures are made with the magnificent Marano Glass, a very nice feature.
Power nap later and we are ready to head out for dinner. A little google mapping and travel advisor reviews and we found a nice little spot just a few blocks from the hotel, Tempio Di Bacco. Hand made fettuccine with the local, fresh now in season, mushrooms and ravioli stuffed with scallops and prawns were on special tonight, sounds great to us, that is what we will have. Delicious.
A few pics of the day… This trip I am posting from my iPad, one less device to carry (no MacBook Pro), meaning that this version of Blogger only allows for 10 pics at a time so unfortunately there will be several parts… I know, first world problems… lol.
