Sept 17, 2021: Yoho National Park (Lake Louise)

We left our Banff campground at about 10 this morning and pulled into Lake Louise just after 11, hmm parking is limited signs already on the highway. The top lot close to the Chateau was full for RV’s but just down the road a bit, like a 15 minute walk there was a lot that showed some room, quick pull in - we are good. The bonus about this lot is that it free compare to the almost $12.00 lot close to the lake, we did well. So, is Lake Louise worth the fuss, yes, absolutely, the setting here is amazing. The colour of the water the mountains and the glaciers surrounding it, jaw dropping. We did the 2 klm hike to the end of the lake and strolled back along the well maintained wide flat path. Yes, the camera finger was very active today. We then did our vista lunch in the Lake Louise ski gondola parking lot, unfortunately the clouds came in and hampered the view, poor us. We continued on for another half hour or so and entered Yoho National Park, we stopped at the Upper Spiral Railway tunnels for a quick look before heading trying to get a campsite in the Park itself. The Spiral Railway tunnels are an interesting feat of engineering as they allowed trains to spiral down the steep mountain side, think multi level parking lots where you go round and round but on a train size scale - amazing really. The Campground is basic, no hookups, so paid boon docking ? They gave us one site that without ramps it was impossible to get level, side to side okay but not front to back. The second site was much better, took some maneuvering to get side to side level, success there but we are still a bit of an angle front to back, but not enough to worry about. This is a good clean Parks Canada Site with good facilities for firewood, etc, bonus is the brand new shower and washroom facility, very nice. It has about 10 individual private shower stalls as well as separate washroom facilities and locked charging stations for your rechargeable devices - very nice feature for the tent campers. Although we crossed the BC border line we are still on Alberta time? This will change tomorrow in Revelstoke, our next stop. The rain has set in on us here tonight and it is a pleasant pitter patter on our roof. Revelstoke tomorrow with a few stops on the way, the first will be Emerald Lake in this park for our breakfast…
