November 14, 2021: Rome, Italy

So the nice thing about having 6 days in Rome on the front side of our trip and 4 after is the weather, today, not so good. We had our delicious breakfast, got a bit organized in the room and without even looking outside got ready to head out. Down the stairs to the lobby and out the front door and we hit a absolute downpour. We looked at each other and went naw not today and headed back up to the room. Afternoon chill and then we headed out for dinner and yes it was still down pouring but the hotel had great umbrellas so off to our dinner reservation we went. Again, Jan made these reservations before we left Vancouver and we almost cancelled due to weather but we decided to go ahead, and we were very happy we did. AD HOC is about a 20 minute walk from the hotel and is cute small establishment about a 6 blocks from the Spanish Step. I know there are more than a few of our readers that would appreciate a restaurant such as this, so take note, when in Rome you should consider eating it AD HOC, at Via del Vantaggio, 28. You are welcomed with a complimentary Rose Prosecco, once settled they will bring you the menu along with a sample of the incredible truffles, that are fresh and in season right now and you could add to your meal if you like. The restaurant has 3 tasting menus, land, sea and Italian and 2 tasting menus including the truffles - with or without wine pairing. Jan had the land and I had the Italian (with the wine pairing). Yes, they also have an a la carte menu but please go for the tasting menu. In short, this was a culinary feast and the wine pairing was perfect. When they brought each dish they gave you the details of each item and in cases, the order in which to eat them, the same descriptions where given for the wine. From here I will let the pictures speak for themselves, let’s just say there were many add ons, like a pre dinner chef creation, and a pre dessert, appetizer as well as a dessert after the dessert. Although Jan did not have the wine pairing they included a glass of wine with her dessert. All in very reasonable, especially when you don’t have to add a tip to the end of the bill. Nice stroll back to hotel as the rain was stopping and we found ourselves all alone on the Spanish Steps - now that has never happened. All in all another wonderful day… Only a few pics as I only had my phone with me… Hope you enjoy…
