Sept 16, 2021: Banff, Alberta

Today it was all about a lake about 15 minutes from our campsite, Lake Minnewanka. Some people mentioned this to us so with no set plans for today off we went, yes early again (well 10am, early for us), to get a parking spot and hey, guess what, no problem, they have two lots, one for RV’s and one for cars. There was only one other RV there. Our routine is that we get up and heat the rig, it must have got down to freezing last night, it was cold and took almost an hour to get the RV up to a comfortable 21 degrees. Make coffee, get into the travel mugs, take down our site with all the connections and move all our outside stuff in and then we are off. We get to our spot and then get breakfast together, so nice travelling with our home. During breakfast I checked on the one hour boat tours on the lake, no problem they have room on the first sailing at noon, booked and paid for - got to love the on line thing. With all 47 guests fully masked off we went. Beautiful day, beautiful weather, great commentary as we went into the 26 kilometre late for about 25 minutes to a perfect viewing point of the amazing Rocky Mountains, we did a ten minute float there as the boat spun around a few times before heading back. This would be a highly recommended tour. The guide mentioned a few hikes to do, one was to the Stewart Canyon and only a kilometre and a half along the waters edge, very doable, scenic and picturesque. From here we continued to scenic circular drive around the lake and park area stopping at the Two Jacks Lakes for lunch, hot soup and sandwich, tea and cookies with a view. We then headed into town to check out the Trading Post, we were told of the Merman that was there, a long story but yes he was there encased in glass. Bonus for me when we strolled the main street yesterday, we stopped in the many tourist shops, I saw a light sweatshirt but each store either didn’t have my size or the tops just didn’t fit right. The Trading Post had the perfect sweatshirt with real embroidering for about the same price as the ones in the strip. If you are here check out the Trading Post just on the other side of the bridge, oh and yes, Marylyn Monroe was here too… Another great day here in Banff, tomorrow we say goodbye and begin our journey home and we are deviating from the original plan, not liking the Covid news and will be staying away from the Okanogan…
